Fool Us was filmed at Fountain Studios in London, England (season one) and the Penn and Teller Theatre in Las Vegas (season two onward). In the first series, it was presented by Jonathan Ross, and the second and third seasons from then on were presented with Hannigan. Season eight will premiere on October 4th, 2021.

Each episode starts off with the introduction stating the main purpose of the show. Penn & Teller come out and take their seats towards the stage. The hopeful magicians perform their act before them in front of a a live studio audience. After each performance, Penn & Teller privately discuss the show while the host questions the magicians. Penn & Teller then reveal whether they are aware of how the trick was executed, typically using cryptic language or noting down the procedure and presenting it privately to the magicians to confirmthe method, in order to avoid publicly exposing the secret behind the trick.

Teller says that the doublespeak can help people learn new techniques without spoiling the trick. If Penn & Teller are wrongor are not able to figure out the method used to perform the trickthe magician is awarded a Fool Us trophy and the opportunity to later perform in one of Penn and Teller’s Las Vegas shows. A backstage judge, who is knowledgeable about the art of magician’s trade and is intimately informed about the method used to perform the trick prior to the show, will make any needed calls to determine if Penn & Teller were properly fooled. In the final moments of every program, Penn & Teller perform the magic trick of their own.

In the initial season, Jonathan Ross served as a temporary substitute for Penn and Teller’s hosting duties, however, they returned for the second season. The film was shot in Fountain Studios in London, England for the first season, before moving to the Penn & Teller Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada for its second season and subsequent seasons.
